Dry Grinding Application

Dry grinding is the operation where the particle size of a material is reduced without liquid. In many cases, dry grinding is a very simple process, often only requiring a few steps. Dry grinding is generally much less expensive than wet grinding, the other popular grinding method, but it doesn’t work as well for some tasks.

A common way to break down ores and other hard raw materials for further processing, dry grinding requires material being placed into a grinder or grate mill for reduction where it is pulverized by physical force.

Iron Ore Dry Grinding Systems

Iron ore grinding can be processed in dry or wet operation. The choice of grinding circuit is based on the density and hardness of the ore to be ground. Although most taconite operations employ rod or mill grinding, a few facilities use autogenous or semi-autogenous grinding systems. Autogenous grinding uses coarse pieces of the ore itself as the grinding media in the mill.

For drying grinding processes, a large variety of technologies has been developed. Even for the fine particle range below 100 micron, many different mill types can be used. Iron ore dry grinding systems include ball mill, raymond mill, trapezium mill, ultrafine mill, vertical mill, high pressure mill etc.
