What if the belt conveyor belt slips?

Slippage is one of the common faults of belt conveyors. Once a slipping fault occurs, it is easy to cause material spillage, blockage of the feed pipe, wear of the conveyor belt, and broken belts, which may cause the belt conveyor to fail to operate normally. This article analyzes the seven major causes of slippage and the solutions.

1. Insufficient tension of the conveyor belt

When the conveyor belt does not have sufficient tension, the driving wheel and the conveyor belt will not generate sufficient friction driving force to pull the conveyor belt and load movement. The stroke of the screw or hydraulic tensioning device is not enough or improperly adjusted. The weight of the weight tightening and the weight of the car tensioning device is not enough. The mechanism jam will cause insufficient tension of the belt conveyor and cause slippage.



2, the drive roller rubber wear is serious

After the belt conveyor runs for a long time, the rubber surface of the driving drum and its groove will be seriously worn, resulting in a decrease in the friction coefficient of the driving drum surface and a decrease in the frictional force, causing the conveyor belt to slip.


Should be treated by re-encapsulation or replacement of the drum, daily attention should be paid to the inspection of the drive roller rubber.


3, the conveyor belt has a deposit on the non-working surface

Due to natural environment changes, on-site ground washing, equipment maintenance, etc., the attachments with certain lubrication on the non-working surface of the conveyor belt will accumulate on the surface of the driving drum during operation, causing the friction between the drum and the conveyor belt to be significantly reduced. Causes slipping.


The source of the attachment should be determined and the source should be cut. If the source cannot be cut, sprinkle some rosin on the drum (blow in with a blower).

4, belt conveyor overload

Due to improper operation or heavy load shutdown, the belt conveyor carries excessive load during operation, causing the conveyor belt to slip.


(1) Observe the belt conveyor current and electronic conveyor belt scale to control the material volume and avoid overload operation.

(2) Try to avoid heavy load shutdown and avoid overload.


5, the head of the tribe tube is blocked

When the blanking tube is clogged, a large amount of material will accumulate on the head and non-working surfaces, and the conveyor belt will be crushed to cause slippage.


Attention should be paid to observing the change of materials on the conveyor belt. When the viscosity changes, the inspection frequency of the head tribe should be increased, and the sticky material of the blanking tube should be cleaned in time to avoid the occurrence of blockage.

6, the conveyor belt is partially scratched

When the conveyor belt is partially blocked by force, it will cause the belt conveyor to slip. For example, the belt conveyor head, the tail tribe material tube card has a foreign object, the tail redirection drum does not rotate, and the like.


The observation of the current of the belt conveyor should be strengthened. When the abnormal current changes occur, it should be stopped immediately for inspection.

7. The wrap angle or friction coefficient between the driving wheel and the conveyor belt is too small

Usually, the wrap angle between the driving wheel and the conveyor belt should be no less than 120°, which is too small to cause slippage. Too small a coefficient of friction between the drive wheel and the conveyor belt can also cause the belt to slip.


When the wrap angle between the driving wheel and the conveyor belt is low and the position of the adjusting tensioning wheel is still effectively increased, the design needs to be modified. If the friction coefficient is too small, carefully observe whether the surface of the conveyor’s driving wheel is too smooth. Otherwise, use a knurled structure or a layer of rubber before testing.
