Zinc Concentrate Processing Plant

Zinc Concentrate

Zinc concentrate is a semi-processed intermediate product used in the production of zinc metal and zinc alloys, which is the result of a flotation process after the zinc ore has been mined and milled. The zinc ore contains 1-15% zinc whereas the concentrate typically contains approximately 55% zinc, 6.5% iron and 32% sulfur together with other elements at much lower levels.

Zinc Concentrate Processing Operation

Rarely extracted zinc ore is rich enough to be used directly by smelters; it needs to be concentrated. Zinc ores contain 5-15% zinc. Zinc concentrate processing operation typically involves the mining of ore from either open pit or underground mines; the crushing and grinding of ore; the separation of valuable minerals from matrix
rock through various concentration steps.

To concentrate the ore it is first crushed and then ground to enable optimal separation from the other minerals. Typically, a zinc concentrate contains about 55% of zinc with some copper, lead and iron. Zinc concentration is usually done at the mine site to keep transport costs to smelters as low as possible.

Zinc Concentrate Processing Plant

In zinc concentrate processing plant, the raw material will be first crushed by jaw crusher, impact crusher or cone crusher for size reduction. Final comminution of both hard and soft ores is often accomplished by grinding operations using ball mill or vertical roller mill. After final size reduction, the beneficiation of the ore increases the concentration of valuable minerals by separating them from the matrix rock. A variety of physical and chemical processes is used to concentrate the mineral.
